Make a round cake from a cake mix, using parchment paper to line cake pans of course!  When cake is cool, frost cake with a dark coloured icing, such as chocolate or caramel. Then make a white icing for the spider web by combining 1/2 cup (125 mL) sifted icing sugar and just enough milk to make a piping consistency (1 to 2 tsp/5 to 10 mL) milk.  Using parchment paper as a piping bag, pipe 4 or 5 circles of the white icing on top of cake. Immediately draw 8 lines with a knife from centre of cake to edges at regular intervals to create a spider web. To make the spider, place a black gumdrop on top of cake and cut black licorice laces into 8 pieces to make spider legs radiating from gum drop body.
